oil on panel, 34.5 x 25.5 cm, framed
Verso a label with a handwritten note about the provenance and with the name of the artist.
Provenance:
collection of August Camphausen (1801–1883), Cologne;
collection of Fanny von Schnitzler, née Joest (1861–1932), Cologne.
Brekelenkam’s peaceful interiors with individual figures are similar to the early works of Nicolaes Maes. A certificate by Prof Otto H. Förster (former Director of the Wallraf-Richartz Museum), Cologne is available (1947).
